Concrete measurement, yield & order handoff

Turn designed dimensions into wet volume, then choose bags or a supplier order without losing the delivery questions.

Thickness changes volume directly. Measure it in the unit shown and use a design appropriate to the project; a volume calculation cannot choose the thickness for you.

Draw non-overlapping shapes

Use slab or footing rectangles, a wall rectangle, round columns or tubes, solid steps and post holes as applicable. Split irregular areas without counting the same concrete twice.

Keep wet volume and bag weight apart

Cubic feet describe mixed volume. Bag weight does not convert to yield without that product’s label. Enter the stated mixed yield, then round up to whole bags.

Separate the order from the shape

A chosen allowance adds to geometry. A supplier minimum or order increment may increase the billed quantity again. Record the measured and ordered volumes separately.

Ask delivery questions before booking

Give the supplier access constraints, placement location and schedule. Ask about short loads, waiting, pumping and returned material. Mixing, curing, reinforcement and finishing instructions come from the accepted design and selected mix.

Example: a 12 × 10 ft slab, 4 inches thick, with a chosen 5% allowance. The bag example yields 0.6 cubic feet; replace it with your mix label.

This example gives 1.56 cubic yards of concrete.

Length and width run across the slab; thickness goes down through it. This measures quantity, not a recommended slab design.
  1. 12 × 10 × 0.3333 = 40 cu ft per rectangle
  2. 40 × 1 identical shapes = 40 cu ft
  3. 40 × (1 + 5/100) ÷ 27 = 1.5556 cu yd
