Cost to install solar panels: Quote worksheet

Compare the system, roof work, electrical scope and contract terms in written solar quotes.

Start with the questions below. Written quotes are required to compare totals; this page does not estimate a market price.

Check what each quote includes

Leave anything unclear as “Ask.” Choose “Extra” to add a separately priced item to that quote’s budget. Do not also put it in the general left-out costs below.

Equipment and system scope

Name panels, inverters, mounting, monitoring and any storage; compare the same system boundaries.

Roof and attachment work

Identify roof repairs, attachment responsibility, penetrations and restoration. Ask who owns any roof-warranty questions.

Electrical and interconnection

Separate panel upgrades, wiring, disconnects, metering, utility applications and permission to operate.

Price and finance terms

Keep cash price, finance charges, payment schedule, lease or purchase terms and cancellation terms distinct.

Incentives and assumptions

Record an incentive only from your own confirmed program or tax advice, with eligibility and expiry. Do not subtract an unconfirmed incentive from the base quote.

Warranty and service

Identify labor, equipment, monitoring, removal/reinstallation and service responsibility over the contract.

Put your quotes side by side

Add only costs left out of each written quote.

Quote A
Costs outside the quote & your reserve

This is money you set aside. It is not a contractor charge or a recommended percentage.

Quote B
Costs outside the quote & your reserve

This is money you set aside. It is not a contractor charge or a recommended percentage.

Enter a quoted price

A price difference helps only after the work matches.

Nothing is sent to a contractor. Saving keeps these entries in this browser; downloading makes a text file.

Before asking for a price

Record the proposed equipment schedule, system size, roof areas, ownership or financing arrangement and utility interconnection scope. Keep production assumptions separate from guaranteed contract terms.

What the total can tell you

No energy savings, incentive eligibility, tax credit or production guarantee is calculated here. A low financed payment is not a lower total project price.

The budget adds the quoted price, separately priced Extra items, other costs left out and any tax not already included. Your chosen reserve is added to that subtotal. Treat every “Ask” row as work that is not yet confirmed as included. Get the answer in writing before comparing totals.
