Roof quote checklist

Get the same work onto every written quote. Mark what you have asked and keep the answer beside it.

Start with your roof measurements, including overhangs and each section’s pitch. Then work through the questions below.

Roof covering

Ask for the exact shingle or panel, color and ordered quantity. A roofing-square figure should identify whether it is measured area or purchase area.

Tear-off and disposal

Record which existing layers are being removed, who supplies the container and whether cleanup is included.

Decking repairs

Ask for a per-sheet or per-area price for unexpected replacement, and how approval works once the old covering is off.

Flashing and roof edges

Identify valleys, walls, chimneys, penetrations, drip edges, starter strips and ridge caps. “As needed” is not a measurable allowance.

Underlayment and ventilation

Record the products and areas included, plus any changes to intake or exhaust vents.

Permits and protection

Ask who handles permits, landscape protection, access, temporary weather protection and final debris pickup.

Warranty and exclusions

Keep the workmanship term, product warranty registration and excluded repairs with the quote, not in a separate conversation.

Your answers stay on this page until you save or download them.

Keep unclear work visible

“As needed” does not say how much a repair will cost. Ask for the unit price, what triggers the extra work and who approves it before it starts.

Photographs and existing plans can help explain the work. Use professional measurements where needed; this checklist does not require you to climb onto the roof.

When the written quotes arrive

Use the roof quote comparison to add the quoted prices and separately priced extras. Keep these answers beside the totals so an omitted repair does not look like a saving.
